What To Wear To An Afters

3 AM Local · 4 min read · Boston, MA

The main party is over. It's 3AM, the lights came up, and somebody just said the four most important words of the night: "back to my place." This is the afters — the after-party — and it's a completely different dress code from the club you just left. If you came out in something stiff, hot, or precious, you're about to find out the hard way.

The afters is where the real night happens: smaller, warmer, longer, more honest. You'll be sitting on floors, standing in kitchens, dancing in living rooms until the sun comes through the blinds. Here's how to dress so you're still comfortable — and still look good — at sunrise.

Rule One: Comfort Over Everything

You're going to be in these clothes for six more hours in a hot apartment. Choose soft, broken-in, breathable. A heavyweight boxy tee beats anything with structure. Washed cotton over anything crisp. If you can't sit cross-legged on a floor in it comfortably, leave it at home.

This is exactly what pieces like The Afters Cut and the True Love tee are built for — relaxed, washed, easy to live in for hours.

Rule Two: Dress For Heat

Apartments at 4AM with twenty people inside get warm, fast. Layers you can shed are smart, but your base layer should breathe. Sleeveless and short-sleeve win here. The goal is to look effortless while staying cool — nobody at the afters is impressed by someone sweating through a jacket.

Rule Three: Keep It Dark And Simple

Low light, long hours, phone cameras everywhere. Dark, monochrome pieces photograph well and hide the wear of a long night. A clean graphic reads better than a busy one at 5AM. Black is, and always will be, the correct answer.

Rule Four: Shoes You Can Stand In

You'll be on your feet more than you think. Whatever you wear, make sure you'd be fine standing in them for another three hours. Sore feet end nights early — and the afters is the part you don't want to leave.

The afters isn't about dressing up. It's about being the most comfortable, most yourself version of the person who walked into the club hours ago. Get that right and you'll still feel good when everyone else is fading.
